Customers are vary about who exactly has access to their personal data and how is it being used. Web sites use cookies to store customer data. This casts third-party cookies in a less than flattering light seen at best as a murky approach to data collection and at worst an invasion of privacy In 2017 apple implemented for its browser safari an update that automatically blocks third-party cookies and limited the life span of first party cookies so they are now set to expire after seven days. Firefox browser also followed suit in 2019 which now also blocks third-party cookies by default and then following this trend apple also have lately announced that users now explicitly have to grant app developers the permission to share their phone’s unique identifier for tracking and advertising purposes, which means you need to specifically grant access whenever thye want apps to track you across apps or websites now Google is of course also following suit they are facing out third-party cookies in 2022 as are all of the major browsers in various methods follows suits.
What does this tell us uh it tells us that there is a definite shift away from using third-party data which then of course coupled with users having a high expectation of good experiences.
